We have decided to keep our wedding an adults-only event. We hope you understand and enjoy your night off! We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Please arrange your own transport to Sofitel for the wedding, and back to your hotel or Airbnb at the end of the evening.

  • Can we take photos or videos?

We kindly (and very sternly) ask that all guests keep their phones and cameras away during the ceremony. We want this moment to be fully experienced, free from distractions, and captured beautifully by our photographer.

Travel and Stay

  • Is Cartagena safe?

“It's almost ludicrous that this place exists and that everybody doesn't want to live here. Have I said yet how beautiful the place is? It’s incredible. It’s fun. And, yes, it’s safe. Every day, more so. As I said before: Colombians are proud. Let them show you what they are proud of.“

    -Anthony Bourdain

  • What's the currency in Colombia?

In Colombia, they use Colombian Pesos. The exchange rate is about 4,000 COP to $1 USD. Some places accept credit cards (make sure to use a CC that does not charge a foreign transaction fee) but we recommend also taking out cash when you get there. The best way to do this is bringing a debit card and taking cash out of an ATM within a major bank when you arrive. This ensures the best exchange rate with minimal fees.

  • Are credit and debit cards accepted?

Most restaurants and businesses will accept credit and debit cards, yes! We recommend having some cash on you for street vendors, small shops, taxis, tips, etc.

  • What's the best way to get around?

The Walled City of Cartagena is pretty easily walkable. If you don't feel up for walking it's also very easy to catch a cab. Uber is also widely available. You can easily call an Uber from the airport. Taxis from the airport to the "Walled City" cost about $20,000 COP (~$8 USD). Remember to ask what the ride costs before getting in.

For events outside the Walled City, we will provide transportation and further instruction as we get closer to our date.

  • Should I rent a car?

For most guests staying within the Walled City, it is not necessary to rent a car as everything is walkable. For those staying in Bocagrande, there are taxis available throughout the city.

  • Do you have a hotel block?

Nope! The bride and groom are staying at the Sofitel Santa Clara, but we have provided a variety of hotel recommendations in the area. Please feel free to stay wherever you feel most comfortable.

  • How is the weather in April?

We are fortunate to have chosen Cartagena, Colombia, as the backdrop for our wedding, and we want you to be aware of the typical weather conditions during early April.

Expect daytime temperatures in the high 80s, and cooler evenings with lows in the 70s. Wear sunscreen and pack accordingly!

  • What should I pack?

Given the warm daytime weather, you may want to consider lightweight fabrics and breathable materials to stay comfortable throughout the celebration.

Please keep in mind that Cartagena's coastal location means that there's often a refreshing breeze, so lightweight layers are a great option to ensure you are comfortable both indoors and outdoors. We want you to enjoy the wedding without any discomfort, so please dress accordingly to stay cool during the day and cozy in the evening.

  • What's with the rappers and street vendors?

Street vendors can be very persistent so if you do not want a souvenir, simply keep walking and say "no gracias".

Oftentimes, you’ll meet rappers on the street. They are super fun, talented lyricist and freestylers. Harmless, but incredibly persistent. They each expect a tip for their time. If not interested, be sure to be stern and say NO thank you (no, gracias) and walk away or they will continue their efforts to get you engaged.

It is a convenient and safe option for travelers who want to order supplies to their hotel or Airbnb without having to leave their location.
